Channeling Energy Into The VOTE: October 9th is the Voter Registration Deadline in 15 States!!
On August 21st, 2018, from 12:00–1:00 PM EDT, radio show host Barbara Arnwine, founder and president of the Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC), highlighted the Last Chance for Voters in 15 states to register to vote!! These states are Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas. You cannot vote if you are not registered!! Many formerly registered voters have been purged from the registration lists! Have you checked your voter registration? If you are no longer on the lists register again at your state website or Vote.org! How can our listeners help with this final push in these states?
Everyone in these states have until October 9th at 11:59 PM to register. You can register at Vote.org or your state voter registration website. It is imperative that you not let the clock run out for registering to vote! **Arkansas, Michigan, Mississippi, and Texas, do NOT have online voter registration**; you must go into your state website and download the form, fill it out, and mail it today or go to any Board of Elections’ location and register in person.
Guests included Sharon J. Hill, field director for the Georgia People’s Agenda and Equal Rights Amendment advocate; The Honorable Corey Minor Smith, Canton (Ohio) City Council; Pat Williams, Ohio NAACP activist; and, Erina Martine, of Black Lives Matter LA.
During the show, Barbara and her guests answered questions about how to register to vote? What is voter caging? What is voter purging? What did the Supreme Court say about voter purging in the 2018 Husted v APRI case? What is Crosscheck? How has it affected voters in Georgia? They also discussed why it is important to vote, especially in these times! What are the key races and ballot initiatives in these states?
Barbara and her guests reviewed the large African American and Latino populations of voters in many of these states such as Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas! How can these voters of color determine the electoral outcome in these states? What can our listeners do to help people register in these final hours? These and so many other issues were covered during the show!
